Abstract

In this article, the author explores one of Europe’s paradoxes today. Amid the weaving of an intricate political and economic tapestry, the Old Continent is assailed by ghosts from the past that were thought long interred: racism, xenophobia, discrimination, violence against minority groups, etc. Ultra-right wing movements and group gain strength amongst young people, and move forward in the polls. Yet old wounds have also resurfaced in European countries.

Fore mostly Austria, France and Germany are plunging in to rescue forgotten truths from their history, to read them under the light of the present. The question is what will prevail: oblivion or the refunding spirit of memory?
