Exaltación de la diferencia (horizontes americanos)

Abstract

The memory factor —“to think and to remember the memory"— is considered as a re- constructing vehicle of the elements of self-identity. Also, the author is critical of all theses that propound to end history, ideologies or utopias, and also of those that offer to “overcome the distances and differences", such as the so-called technicalyzed globalization, which must be understood in its true dimension. The differentiated cultures —with history memory— are precisely those that act as power factors in an increasing transnational World. The author also points out that this collective memory is not synonymous with extreme nationalism, ethnic, or religious hatreds, and concludes that today's cultural changes —of identities— don't necessarily mean the disappearance of the feeling of belonging; rather, they are a readjustment and, therefore, a redefinition of it “in the extensive trade among nations".
