Abstract

This article examines the changes in the global technologies and the extent to which they influence the reorganization of the global economy and the new international division of labour, the recomposition of the economic blocks and regions, the institutional and juridical reforms to facilitate the free movement of goods and capital, as well as the development of new rules and criteria for competition and collaboration between multinational corporations and countries. It identifies some of the changes the new technologies introduce in factories, like statistical quality control, the new manufacturing accountability based in the time principle, the adequate combination of standardization and flexibilization, the shortening of the research and development (R&D) cycle, the time of production and circulation. And, last, it discovers the new characteristics R&D acquires due to the processes of globalization: faster rhythms of technological innovation, mergers and combinations of existent technologies driving forward competencies and collective intelligence at the level of the factory and the Corporation, diverse and dynamic forms of interfirm cooperation and collaboration.
