Abstract

In her analysis of the behavior of the electorate in the nation’s capital, the author departs from the frame of the electorate normative to the preferences of the electorate and the challenges that face the new cardenista government. Thus, the author explores the elements that she considers essential to understand this behavior, such as: the radical character of the electoral reform that opened up the space for participation and representation in an entity where they had been traditionally centralized; the rapid advance of the opposition in the last four elections and the high volatility of the vote in each election. Finally, the article points out that the administration of Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas faces the challenge of interpreting correctly, votes that, more than an open support for him and his party (pro), can be read as a reaction of disenchantment towards the PRI, the official party.
