Globalización y regionalización. Respuestas regionales a los problemas no económicos

Abstract

Although recognizing that globalization is a fact, the author points out that regionalization may be an answer to non-economical problems such as the defense of human rights and democracy, sustainable development, drug trafficking, guerrilla movements, territorial conflicts, the collapse of the state, and others. In view of the preponderant influence of the United States, Ramiro Brotons analyzes several means of Latin American integration such as the Contadora and Rio Groups. Similarly, he studies the inter-regional cooperation mechanisms established between Latin America and the European Union in order to increase Latin America's autonomy margin with respect to the United States.
