Abstract

Formal education is one of human beings’ evidences of development. For this reason, Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo, through its Virtual University System, presents a new mode of delivery for its 2009 offerings: online learning. With its own system embedded in its student centered model, it uses TICs as a tool that promotes flexibility for the integration of contents and actors in the basic learning-teaching process.

The on-line high school was created as a response to higher education requirements as well as to societal demands. This option is practical for students who want a professional education but are unable to attend regular classes. The system’s mission is to integrally form students in an alternative educational system, providing them with cultural knowledge, skills and values as well as a critical attitude. It promotes that they become creative, self-starters, tolerant and committed to preserve the environment, able to solve life’s problems and to be competitive at the university level as well as in their social context.
