POLÍTICA DE SALARIOS MÍNIMOS: INFLUENCIA SOBRE LA DESIGUALDAD ECONÓMICA EN LA UNIÓN EUROPEA

Abstract
En este artículo se analiza el efecto que tiene el salario mínimo relativo sobre la desigualdad de la renta disponible equivalente de los hogares de la Unión Europea. Para ello, se efectúa un análisis empírico con una modelización econométrica con datos de panel que permite comprobar la eficacia de las políticas de los salarios mínimos relativos sobre la desigualdad económica y que da lugar a la estimación de una elasticidad negativa y significativa. Sin embargo, dicho efecto se reduce en un 60% a partir del inicio de la crisis económica. Esto no es un inconveniente para que esta medida de los salarios mínimos, que tiene un carácter relativo, pudiera ser utilizada como referencia común europea en la lucha contra la desigualdad económica. Así, las diferencias económicas, sociales, culturales, de mercado de trabajo y de estado de bienestar no supondrían un serio inconveniente para su adopción comunitaria.
