ECONOMÍA POLÍTICA DE LA CRISIS DE LA DEUDA EN EUROPA

Abstract
El presente artículo analiza la crisis actual de la eurozona y discute las interpretaciones más importantes de este fenómeno, tanto la que responsabiliza a las autoridades y a los ciudadanos de los países en crisis porque supuestamente gastaron más allá de los medios que su economía les proporciona como la que finca la responsabilidad en las autoridades de toda la Unión Europea porque mantuvieron, a sabiendas, un defectuoso arreglo institucional del proceso de coordinación de la política monetaria y la fiscal. El artículo presenta argumentos teóricos y empíricos que rechazan la hipótesis que sostiene que la austeridad estabiliza la deuda pública; y propone como alternativa un proceso de coordinación basado en la aplicación efectiva de una Agencia Fiscal Europea que pueda proveer mejores resultados al favorecer la adopción de políticas fiscales coordinadas y expansivas.
