¿MODELO DE CRECIMIENTO EXPORTADOR O MODELO DE ESTANCAMIENTO EXPORTADOR? EL CASO DE MÉXICO, 1961-2010

Abstract
Presentamos una pequeña modificación de la Ley de Thirlwall a través de la consideración de los requerimientos de importación del sector exportador, en específico, introducimos la idea de la elasticidad exportaciones de la demanda de importaciones. Dadas la tasa de crecimiento de las exportaciones y la elasticidad ingreso de la demanda de importaciones, una más alta elasticidad exportaciones de la demanda de importaciones implica una más baja tasa de crecimiento consistente con el equilibrio de la balanza de pagos. Este argumento es corroborado de forma empírica para el caso de la economía mexicana, la cual exhibió casi las mismas tasas de crecimiento de las exportaciones y la elasticidad ingreso de la demanda de importaciones durante el periodo del Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte (TLCAN), en comparación con el periodo de 1961 a 1981. Sin embargo, exhibió una fuerte reducción de su tasa de crecimiento acorde con el equilibrio externo, debido a un sustancial incremento de su elasticidad exportaciones de la demanda de importaciones.
