Abstract
The cognitive-behavioral model has shown effectiveness in the problems of depressed people. Such a model highlights the interdependence of the various processes involving cognitions, emotions, individual behavior and environmental consequences. However, strategies for treating depression based on this model only emphasize the importance of changin depressive thoughts for therapeutic success, underestimating the relevance of developing new skills to raise the level of social activity of individuals with depression, in order to increase the rate of reinforcement. A case of a depressive woman who is treated with a focus on improve her behavioral activity is presented. The results show a remission of symptoms of depression as a result of their enhanced social and occupational functioning.
