Detection and intervention of the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) summary

Abstract
The principal characteristics of the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are impulsivity, attention deficit, anxiety, conduct disorders and learning disabilities. The objective of this paper is to describe a program for the detection and intervention of ADHD in preschool children. In the evaluation were applied: direct observations, the Conners’ Rating Scale-Revised, the Attention Deficit Disorders Evaluation Scale, and interviews to parents and teachers. Sixty preschoolers were evaluated, and nine of these children were diagnosed with ADHD, we gave them a global treatment which includes two classic models in child psychology: the behavioral approach and the cognitive-behavioral approach, in order to promote the development of abilities and competencies; furthermore, there was given advise and counseling to parents and teachers for the management of the child. In the evaluation, results of the pretest and posttest were compared with the selected scales and the questionnaire for parents and teachers, observing remarkable improvements in the most problematic behaviors and the development of abilities in their social skills.
