The unveiling of a classic in Latin America: Antonio Gramsci through Pablo González Casanova’s thought
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article is composed of three parts that reconstructs the theoretical and political trajectory of Mexico’s intellectual Pablo González Casanova, while redesigning Gramsci’s thought surrounding the struggle of democracy in Latin America. Casanova presents a unique argument of Latin American democracies toward socialism. First, he gets back to analyzing Mexico’s revolutionary nationalism. Second, he evaluates the similarities between democratic struggle and the struggle for national liberation. And third, based on the case of Central American revolutions, he elaborates a creative analysis of Gramsci’s concept of hegemony as political practice, in which he brings together both democracy and socialism.
