Toward an unified sociology: the supposed dispute between cognitive utility and practical utility
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this article I reflect on the "why", the "for what" and the "how" of sociology and for this I hold a dual position on the relevance of this discipline in the 21st century. On the one hand, the centrality of a cognitive orientation based on the formulation of questions specific to the academic field and its rigorously scientific treatment; and on the other, the importance of professional training that allows experts to participate actively in debates that shake social life, as well as to understand and influence the resolution of social problems and the design and implementation of public policies. I believe that the dispute between cognitive utility and practical utility is solvable, given that scientific knowledge favors the implementation of effective social interventions and provides inputs for a political task of a strategic nature".
