Overweight and obesity: quality of life from adolescence to adulthood
Main Article Content
Abstract
Adolescence is a stage of biopsychosocial changes that shape lifestyle habits with long-term impacts on health. Eating behaviors and adherence to healthy habits during adolescence are associated with lower obesity rates and higher quality of life in adulthood (Bull et al., 2020). This article addresses three perspectives: psychological, nutritional, and medical. Quality of life is defined as the perception of well-being and biopsychosocial functioning; in adolescents, it is linked to school climate, family relationships, and stress management, and in adults, to physical health and emotional well-being (Diener, Oishi, & Lucas, 2015). Evidence suggests that strengthening health in young people facilitates the transition to adulthood with skills to avoid harmful habits.
