Risk factors and metabolic syndrome

Abstract
Metabolic syndrome is a clinical disorder characterized by the presence of abdominal obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia and insulin resistance. This syndrome increases the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. In the last twenty years different organizations have proposed different definitions using different terminology, with the aim of clarifying the characteristics and the factors that are related, among which are lifestyle, nutritional quality and the absence of physical activity, even factors such as age and sex contribute to metabolic susceptibility. Therefore, this article briefly reviews the definition of metabolic syndrome, its pathophysiology, diagnosis, related psychological factors, management and recommendations, which are primarily aimed at prevention.
