Effects of confinement on cognition and behavior in adults

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the implementation of unprecedented measures to restrict social coexistence, which undoubtedly has an impact on people's daily routines and activities. The fear of contracting the virus is added to the impact of changes in such activities as working from home, temporary unemployment, home schooling of children and lack of physical contact with loved ones and friends, it is important to take care of both physical and mental health. Therefore, in this article a theoretical review of the effects that confinement has on the cognitive and behavioral level in the adult population is carried out, with the purpose of observing which are the main characteristics that are seen since it is considered that prolonged stays at home could generate, among others, fear, panic, anxiety and depressive states, in addition to sedentary lifestyles, which impact directly on physical health.
