Abstract

Overweight and obesity have serious implications for being a public health problem in the world, since they have had an accelerated growth in recent decades, in different age groups and that is even related to changes in the living conditions of the population. The increasing number of new cases has led to classifying it as an epidemic, a fact that reflects the need to know the triggering causes in order to work on modifiable factors and the establishment of correct instruments for the detection and assessment of this pathology. In this article, an analysis of the associated risk factors that define obesity, the etiopathology, its classification according to international standards, the pathophysiology, the recommendations for the physical examination of patients with obesity, with the objective of to identify the symptoms and signs, as well as associated pathologies, as well as the factors involved in the diagnosis and treatment. The factors that are analyzed allow a better understanding of the development or appearance of obesity, as well as the characteristics that can define the treatments, specifying the importance of carrying out multidisciplinary work.
