Abstract

Because of the 100th anniversary of Octavio Paz’s birthday, this article gives information about people, institutions, events and historical circumstances that nurture the personality, thinking and skills of one of the most important Mexican essayists and poets of the 20th century. You will read about his family and some relatives, his political awakening in middle school, an important teacher he had in high school, poet friends, studies, travels and work for some magazines and TV programs. The article lets you know the position of Paz before some Marx’s ideas and the left movement in the times the poet lived. An important issue of this text deals with the importance of the TV programs Paz recorded for Televisa because they had some Mexican audience of the 80’s learn to enjoy and read poetry through Paz’s own creativity, voice and musicality.
