Percepciones de envejecimiento exitoso en adultos mayores mexicanos

Resumen
El propósito principal de este estudio fue explorar las perspectivas de los adultos mayores Mexicanos sobre el concepto del envejecimiento exitoso, así como el conocer su opinión sobre si ellos consideran que han envejecido exitosamente y por qué. La teoría fundamentada fue el método utilizado y la información se obtuvo mediante entrevistas individuales con 23 adultos mayores de edades entre los 62 y 88 años, en la ciudad de Zapopan, México. El envejecimiento exitoso es un concepto multidimensional que incluye numerosos factores internos y externos. En general, la definición de los adultos mayores sobre el envejecimiento exitoso incluye el aceptar y adaptarse a las transiciones de vida y a sus condiciones de salud, tener un fuerte vínculo con familiares y amigos, estar cerca de dios, alcanzar sus objetivos de vida, y envejecer en sus casas. La mayoría de los participantes consideraron que ellos eran exitosos en su proceso de envejecimiento, aunque algunos reconocieron que no estaban siendo exitosos en todos los aspectos de su vida.
