Abstract

Currently, there is a low rate of research preparation and execution in the Bachelor's Degree in French Teaching. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to characterize students' difficulties, based on their own opinions, when conducting research using a longitudinal-descriptive qualitative approach. To this end, eight students participated in three interviews. The results let to characterize research difficulties, grouped into three categories: 1. Training in research skills with a grasp of research concepts at a theoretical level. 2. Research skills that frame the difficulties or lack of skills at the practical level in posing the problem, formulating objectives, developing the theoretical framework, implementing methodological designs, choosing techniques and instruments, and writing an academic transcript in a foreign language. 3. Attitudes toward the research process that demonstrate interest and initiative in research despite having basic experience and difficulties conducting it. This allows for reflection on the importance of practice in relation to theory, which represents a gap between knowledge and application, emphasizing the need for a teaching methodology to address it. In conclusion, research requires both solid theoretical knowledge and investigative skills that help put what has been learned into practice, systematize information, and describe a study.
