Photosensitive Epilepsy

Abstract
Epilepsy is a chronic pathological condition of the brain with a predisposition to generate recurrent seizures due to abnormal neuronal activity
that can occur at any age, estimating an affected population of 50 million people worldwide (World Health Organization, 2019).
According to the WHO, about 80% of patients with epilepsy live in low- and middle-income countries, and three-quarters of people under such situations do not receive treatment, and if they do, only about 70% of those patients respond favorably. On the other hand, patients and their families can be victims of discrimination (World Health Organization, 2019). Photosensitive epilepsy (PSE) generates seizures due to light stimulation, affecting 5% of patients with epilepsy. Currently, patients with PSE are at increased risk of exposure to potential triggers from the growing technologies surrounding modernity (Panayiotopoulos, 2005). Therefore, in addition to pharmacological treatment, it is important to know the types of triggering stimuli and their characteristics as a preventive factor in order to reduce the frequency of events. The present study is based on the recompilation of the kind of stimuli that triggers the seizures in PSE.
