Abstract

The purpose of this research was to analyze the relationship between anxiety, constructive thinking (PC) and non constructive thinking (PNC) on a sample of university students. Results showed that
14% of the students presented a high degree of anxiety; examining physiological anxiety we found a significant difference favorable to women. In PC, also we found a significant difference favorable
to women in behavioral coping. Correlating anxiety and PC, as expected, we found a negative and significant correlation between all PC´s scales and subscales and the four anxiety modalities, which
means that the better the constructive thinking, lower rates of anxiety are presented. However, in PNC, only the correlations between rigid thought with cognitive anxiety, motor and with anxiety total were found significant. It is concluded that an alternative to reduce anxiety on students who confront academic demands, would be to teach them to think on a more constructive way.
