Abstract

THIS PAPER INCLUDES ABBLIOGRAPHICAL REVIEW OF THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL BEHAVIOR STUDIES OF PILES SUBJECTED TO STATICCLAT ERAL LOAD. THE EXPERIMENTAL BEHAVIOR WAS OBTAINED FROM FULL SCALE LOAD TES AND IT PROVIDES A SOLID BA SIS FOR COMPARISON WITH NUMERICAL METHODS OF ANALYSIS, MAINLY BEAM ON ELASTIC FOUNDATION, P-Y CURVES METHOD, AND FINITE ELEMENTS WITH LINEAR MODELING OF SOIL. THE COMPUTER RESULTS WERE COMPARED WITH THE EXPERIMENTAL MEASUREMENTS. THE P-Y CURVES METHOD PROVIDES THE BEST RESULTS, MODELING APAPROPRIATELY THE DISTRIBUTION OF LATERAL LOADS AND BENING MOMENTS OF PILES IN A GROUP. THE LINEAR FINITE ELEMENT METHOD MODELS PARTIALLY THE IN TERACTION SOIL-PILE GROUP. THE LINEAR FINITE ELEMENT METHOD MODELS PARTIALLY THE INTERACTION SOIL- PILE GROUP AND GIVES A REASON ABLE AN SWER OF THE GROUPEFFICIENCY. THE BEAM ON ELASTICFOUNDATION METHOD GIVES RESULTS SIMILAR TO THOUSE USING THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD AND IT IMPROVES WHEN NON LINEAR BEHAVIOR OF SOIL IS CONSIDERED.
