Abstract
THE GAIN AND OTHER OPERATIONAL PROPERTIES OF A YAGI ANTENNA ARE CLOSELY RELATED TO THE POSITION AND ORIENTATION OF ITS FED ELEMENT, AND NOT JUST TO THE NUMBER OF ITS RADIATING ELEMENTS OR THE SPACING BETWEEN THEM. A COMPARISON BETWEEN SINGLE-DIPOLE-FED AND FOLDED-DIPOLE-FED ANTENNAS IS PRESENTED IN THIS PAPER, CONSIDERING COPLANAR RIGHT-ARM-FED, COPLANAR LEFT-ARM-FED AND TRANSVERSAL CONFIGURATIONS FOR THE FOLDED DIPOLE. THE RESULTS SHOWN ARE USE FUL IN THE DESIGN AND UNDER STANDING OF THIS TYPE OF ANTENNA WHEN FED WITH A FOLDED DIPOLE, SINCE ALMOST NO PERFORMANCE VALUES ARE FOUND IN THE TECHNICAL LITERATURE. THE PROCEDURE FOLLOWED TO OBTAIN THEM SHOULD BE USE FUL FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS ON THE SUBJECT OF LINEAR ANTENNAS, WHICH ARE STILL WIDELY USED IN A VARIETY OF COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS
