NAVIGATING THROUGH CRISIS: CHALLENGES AND RESPONSES IN SECONDARY EDUCATION IN MEXICO AND THE UNITED STATES
Main Article Content
Abstract
Secondary education is a pivotal period in youth de-velopment, characterized by substantial growth and transition. However, in times of crises —such as natural disasters, pandemics, or political upheavals— this phase can be fraught with uncertainty and stress, deeply affecting students’ academic performance and emotional well-being. This paper examines the unique challenges students face during such crises, emphasizing the need for comprehensive support systems. It also explores the disruption of routines and economic challenges, focusing on the specific contexts of Mexico and the United States. In Mexico, challenges like economic inequality, violence, and gender disparities in education are prevalent, whereas students in the United States, as seen at Easthampton High School, contend with high expectations and stress management. Finally, the study underscores the need for holistic approaches that integrate both educational and social interventions, highlighting the role of educators and institutions in providing emotional, academic, and community sup-port to navigate these difficult times.
