La emigración: ¿cruce de fronteras o algo más?

Abstract

The author states that emigration is not only an exchange of labor force and remittances, but it implies both taking one’s culture to another country, with a different culture and, sometimes, a different language; and facing discriminatory and abusive actions. This article refers how, after coming back to our country –either as visitors or definitively–, Mexican immigrants show a deep impact, originated by their unawareness of their own identity, the meaning of being Mexican, their national symbols and other identity elements. These elements, nevertheless, are ignored because, eventually, their need to emigrate is stronger than the reasons they may have to stay.
