Abstract

Homophobia leads to attitudes, either conscious or not, either subtle or open, which are evidence of the exclusion suffered by homosexual people, and also promote discriminative behaviors, rejection towards lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals, as a result of a social construction. That is to say, homophobia is not limited just to verbal violence, but it goes farther, sheltered by impunity. Homophobia may be stopped by the kind of knowledge provided by scientific and secular education on sexuality; it may be eradicated by people and institutions’ will to do it, those which are obliged to guarantee education and security for all.
