Símbolos identitarios de jóvenes homosexuales en un espacio recreativo

Abstract

As a contribution from social theory, this article is aimed to show three identity symbols we found in a group of young homosexual men inside a symbolic space: Lipstick, a meeting place considered by many homosexual young people as a fashionable night spot to enjoy in Mexico City. The main category this essay deals with is identity, setting some recurrent symbols we found in the studied subjects: youth, beauty and an almost neurotic way of dressing, as elements they consider necessary, since those contribute to build up their identity, in order to make them feel as part of that group.
