Abstract

The peyote (LOPHOPHORA WILLIAMSII) is a cactus with hallucinogenic properties, which has been used since ancient times for medicinal, therapeutic, and visionary purposes, for this reason, it has been a subject of iintense interest for several areas of science and in literary circles, Largely due to pressure from over harvesting, it has been included in the Ofiicial Mexican Standard NOM-059-ECOL-2001 as ”SUBJECT TO SPECIAL PROTECTION”.
