Abstract

A PARTIAL EXPLANATION IS OFFERED OF HOW THE POLITICS OF ACCESS TO ART AND MUSIC EDUCATION ARE DECIDED IN MEXICO TODAY. AN OVERVIEW SUMMARIZES CURRENT LAWS AND THE PREVAILING CULTURAL EDUCATION DISCOURSE OF THE FOX GOVERNMENT. NEXT, THEIR RELATION TO ACTUAL CLASSROOM PRACTICES IN DIFFERENT MILIEUS ARE EXAMINED, AS WELL AS THE MEANINGS THAT ARE GENERATED IN SCHOOLS IN THE INTERACTION BETWEEN OFFICIAL POLICIES AND PRACTICES. FINALLY, AN EXPLANATION OF THE ROLE OF SUCH INTERACTIONS IN DETERMINING THE POLITICS OF ACCESS OF ART AND MUSIC EDUCATION IS ATTEMPTED.
