Abstract

THE EFFECT OF PH ON GROWTH RATE WAS STUDIED IN FIFTEEN STRAINS OF ECTOMYCORRHIZAL FUNGI, AND BELONG TO AMANITA MUSCARIA, LACCARIA BICOLOR, PISOLITHUS ARRHIZUS, RHIZOPOGON SP., SCLERODERMA POLYRHIZUM, SUILLUS GLANDULOSIPES, S. TOMENTOSUS, SUILLUS SP. AND TERFEZIA OLBIENSIS. THE TESTED PH VALUES WERE 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 AND 8.0. THE VARIABLES STUDIED WERE AVERAGE GROWTH RATE, FINAL DIAMETER AND DRY WEIGHT OF THE FUNGAL COLONIES. AMANITA MUSCARIA STRAINS HAD SLOW GROWTH, WITHOUT STATISTICAL SIGNIFICATIVE DIFFERENCES AT 4 TO 7 PH; LACCARIA BICOLOR HAD ITS LARGER GROWTH AT PH OF 6 AND 7; PISOLITHUS ARRHIZUS AT PH OF 4 TO 6; RHIZOPOGON SP. AT 5 AND 6; SCLERODERMA POLYRHIZUM AT 6 AND SUILLUS AT 4 TO 6. IN CONTRAST, STRAIN OF TERFEZIA OLBIENSIS WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT GREW BETTER AT PH OF 8.0, AND ITS GROWTH WAS SO FASTER THAT THE EXPERIMENT WAS CONCLUDED AT 18 DAYS.
