Analysis of the Reasons for Consultation for Decision-making in Family Medicine

Abstract

Objective: analyze the causes and reasons that patients assigned to a family medicine clinic request medical attention and reflect on their implications in decision making for medical services planning. Methods: cross-sectional, retrospective and descriptive study carried out in the Family Medicine Clinic (cmf), Coyoacán, at the Institute of Social Security of the Employees of the State (issste). The source of information was the official administrative records taken from the daily medical report format; data were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: the information was obtained from 3 022 patients treated in the doctor’s office number 7, during 2012; 68.9% was female and 31.1% male. The average age was 53.9 years ±17.69. The first five reasons for consultation were: high blood pressure (19.4%), unconfirmed diagnosis (9.8%), Diabetes Mellitus (9.3%), healthy -health certificate, health record- (4.9%), acute pharyngitis (4.4%). Conclusions: the information generated in primary health care medical consultations demonstrates the need of training, updating, and objective orientation of actions and activities that should be developed for the comprehensive management of most common diseases.
