Family Functionality in Pediatric Patients with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Abstract

Objective: identify the familiar functionality in patients with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (all) from 1 to 15 years of age. Methods: observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and prospective study made at the Family Medicine Unit (fmu) no. 6, of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (imss), in Puebla, Mexico; from February to May 2012, non-randomized sample by family quotas with pediatric patients who had all. It was evaluated: Family apgar, faces iii, type of family, developmental cycle and socio-economic status; a sample of 79 relatives of patients with all joined the sample. Results: family functionality according to apgar: functional families, 77.2% (n=61); and families with moderate dysfunction, 22.8% (n=18); according to faces iii: balanced families, 51.9% (n=41); families in midrange, 36.7% (n=29); and extreme families, 11.4% (n=9). Conclusions: in this study there were more functional families (77.2%). It is proposed that in the Family Medicine Units (fmu) in which patients with all are identified; there are stablished orientation or family therapies where necessary.
