Abstract

Objective: to identify frequency, risk factors and types of domestic violence in women older than 18 years. Material and methods: observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study. Non-random, non-representative sample with a confidence level of 95%, precision 8%, variability p=0.7 and q=0.3. The study included 126 women from a Family Medicine Clinic in Mexico City who voluntarily agreed to participate through a previous consent and who had not had a relationship in the past 12 months. A single measurement was made through a questionnaire from July to September 2012. Results: the presence of psychological, physical, economic and sexual violence was found. The history of violence during childhood was identified as a risk factor. Of the interviewed women, 97% said they have not received guidance on issues of family violence by their family physician. Conclusions: domestic violence is an issue addressed by the family physician. The little information to guide patients has made that there is a low registry of cases.
