Relation between Uterine Cervical Dysplasia and the Human Papillomavirusin a Primary Care Unit in Michoacan, Mexico

Abstract

Objective: to determine the relation of the Human Papillomavirus Infection (hpvi) with dysplasias and to describe the reference process. Material and methods: cross sectional and descriptive study. Clinical records of a non random sampling were reviewed with a positive result of hpvi and dysplasia in the period of January 1 to December 31, 2008, and the results of endocervical cytology, post colposcopy and the histopathological result. The variables studied were the cytology report, colposcopy and biopsy. The data are presented as media ± de, percentages and frequencies. Results: 10,668 cytology were performed in the doc cacu program, of which 82 were hpvi positive and/or dysplasia, 70 attended for colposcopy, 58 were confirmed by biopsy. Diagnosis of cervical vaginitis in 22 patients (37.9%) high grade injury (lie-ag) in 20 (34.4%) low-grade injury (lie-ag) in 14 (24.1%) and invasive carcinoma in 2 (3.4%). The association was presented in 19 patients (32.7%). Conclusions: the relation of hpvi with dysplasias is high. The program coverage is broad, however in the process of confirming the diagnosis through biopsy, a high percentage of patients can be lost.
