Abstract
In this essay the Brazilian researcher Danilo Rabelo raises the complex topic of the representations of Latin-American and Caribbean immigrants, particularly in New York, taking as example the musical work of August Darnell or Kid Creole and the zeigeist (the spirit of the age) of the beginning of the 1970s. Critically analyzed here is how North American society establishes stereotypes, prejudices and identities concerning Latín American immigrants, specially regarding sexuality, and their creative response to these.
