Abstract

Disappointed with the state of Psychology in 1913, Watson proposed in his famous manifest two complementary ideas, one methodological - the replacement of introspection the scientific method as practiced in the other natural sciences, and me other theoretical ~ the replacement or consciousness by behavior as the central object of Psychology. In this article we analyze the reasons for these two proposals, their relevance today, and their limitations. Finally, we discuss some of the causes of people's resistance to Watson's manifesto.
