Abstract

Four albino rats received two periods of partial food deprivation (12 per night-17 hours night/day) separated by a free-food period to evaluate possible effects on body weight and water and food consumption. All subjects showed an increase in their body weight during post- deprivation periods accompanied by a decrement in food consumption. the role of food deprivation in the modification of feeding patterns, and the importance of studies evaluating post-deprivation effects on body weight and food and water intake are discussed.
