Perception of insecurity and visibility in Ciudad Universitaria
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper explores the morphological characteristics of some of the public, open-air spaces within the Ciudad Universitaria of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) perceived as unsafe by the community, based on the participatory mapping workshops of the project “Trustworthy spaces in Ciudad Universitaria”. The objective is to explore the relationship between morphology and the perception of insecurity within the university campus. Visibility analysis (VGA) was carried out using Isovist, and front types are also taken into account, using information collected on location. The results indicate that there are visual characteristics attributable to morphology directly related to spaces being perceived as more, or less safe, such as those relevant to the geometry and topology, including visual continuity, or the pre ence of elements that interrupt the line of view within a given space.
