Genesis and current state of the railway and maritime heritage of Progreso, Yucatan

Abstract

The aim of this article is to show how, from the period of economic liberalism, many of the elements that formed the rail and maritime transportation systems of Progreso (Yucatán) emerged, some of them subsequently disappearing or being transformed, the latter remaining to this day as part of the local architectural heritage. The study takes into account the societal transformation, an important element of this change being the economic system. The remaining elements of these transportation systems are identified, as is their current conservation status.
