Narvarte and Palermo: Urban Weaving in the Planning of Mexico City and Bogotá in the Early 20th Century
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the first half of the 20th Century, the urbanization processes for Bogotá and Mexico City were determined by logics of land occupation that have traditionally been studied as part of the then-new paradigm of urban planning. The central argument of this article is to understand the process of consolidating the Palermo and Narvarte neighborhoods through the concept of "urban weaving." This article proposes a comparative study of the theoretical models of Karl Brunner and Carlos Contreras, in which the expansion of the urban fabric is not simply the addition of new city blocks to existing ones, but rather a functional, aesthetic and even social project.
