Vegetation in Mexica celebrations: the conservation of a landscape component
Main Article Content
Abstract
Vegetation is one of the components of landscape that changes more rapidly over time, and is therefore subject to replacement by species that may or may not be native to the region. This modifies the landscape and leads people to forget the uses values of local plants.
This article studies the plant species that were used in Mexica festivals according to the work of Fray Bernardino de Sahagún. Plants are identified by their common name in classical náhuatl, their scientific name, their ceremonial use, and their risk category (whether they are in danger of extinction or not). The ultimate goal is to draw a list of plants to propose their conservation, given their festive features.
