Main Article Content

James K. Galbraith

Abstract

This article highlights the major historical and political trends following the abandonment of the Bretton Woods monetary system and how decades of neoliberal economic policy dismantled piece by piece the New Deal legislature and the international cooperation that for decades were successful in limiting economic inequality and financial crises. It also proposes that global neoliberalism was never able to fully conquer the globe, and how China's ascent can today present a challenge to the dollar's global hegemony.
