Social and political effects of the current international financial crisis
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article paints a map of the manifestations of the financial
crisis through the lens of social and political happenings in several countries that belong to, or are associated with, the European Union, including Latvia, Great Britain, Holland, Portugal, Ireland, Spain,Greece, Belgium, Italy and France. Likewise examined are Arab and Latin American and Caribbean countries, which are characterized by their structural tendencies of income concentration. The author warns that in the context of the current economic crisis, various center right parties are gaining power, which could delay even further a resolution to the crisis, as the political profile of these parties points to an outcome in which the costs of the crisis will be borne by societies at large, imposing even greater wealth concentration.
