Financialization: The road to the bankruptcy of General Motors

Abstract
General Motors, one of the leading companies in the automotive industry, with a strong presence in the world's productive economy, had been faced with many difficulties before entering into bankrupcy. Since the beginning of the nineties, the economic strategy of GM was one of a gradual abandoning of the production of automobiles and an ever greater reliance on financial activities. This inclination towards a financialized business model within the productive sector of the economy has become a clear example of the force of the penetration and hegemony of finances in economic activities.
