Yesterday and today: Finance Capitalism

Abstract

This essay presents the most important contributions of Finance Capital to the understanding of the transformations of the capitalist economic system in its moment, not only from a local and national perspective, but also a global one. These mutations were centered around considerations of national development and were expressed on an international scale. This article examines several of Hilferdings conclusions in the political field that appear to run counter to his economic discoveries, yet at the same time insists upon the importance of recuperating the spirit present in Finance Capital. Of particular importance is the effort to systematize the functioning of capital, that today is expressed as the financialization of the economy.
