Abstract

On certain villages, placed on the foothill of the great Popocatépetl volcano, certain ritual demanding rains take place during the moth of May, old tradition historical rituals in Mesoamerica, led by certain meteorological specialists, for whom the main idea is still enough water invocation for the earth, and the population welfare benefit, as a result. Nevertheless, this volcano has not stopped its activity, even more, on December 1994, it turns to be the focal point in the State, precisely for this fact, the Colossus is monitored in detail through government requests, preparing maps as well as diverse evacuation programs. Therefore, facing a subject that not only includes cultural elements, symbolic and traditional, but also connects specific situations where human settlement is questionable to a certain point, the interest to analyze the word “disaster” appears, contemporaneous term for sociology, as well as the application of it before the perspective of a modern society facing local communities traditions, part of the objectives proposed for this work. In this sense, social, economic, political and ideological conditions must be known and analyzed in every community, in order to do this; the diverse focus needs a reflection in order to analyze disaster perception, great interest subject, most of all during the last decades.
