This mixed prospective study among university students at the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM, evaluated cardiovascular health parameters and depressive symptoms using the Beck Depression Inventory and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Results showed that only 3% of women had ideal cardiovascular health, while 80% of men had a normal BMI. Depressive symptoms correlated with sleep quality. The qualitative study, through focus groups, revealed how mental health influences the predisposition to obesity and cardiovascular diseases. A conceptual model based on Petri (1962) nets was designed, visualizing the complex interrelations between mental health, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases. This model highlights the importance of addressing both mental and physical health integrally in public health strategies.
Sofia Barragán Acosta Elizabeth Gordillo Arrañaga Fernanda Maltos Gómez Armando Muñoz Comonfort Gustavo López Toledo Raúl Sampieri Cabrera Copyright (c) 2024 2024-11-19 2024-11-19 14 54 6 14 10.22201/fesz.20075502e.2024.14.54.90258 Approaches to the functions of adipose tissue and obesity https://journals.unam.mx/index.php/psic/article/view/90259
The present work deals with adipose tissue in energy conservation and expenditure. It deals with fat and energy storage processes, thermodynamics and relationships of adipose tissue in all currently known types, such as the adipose rainbow. More than good fat or bad fat, the functionality of adipose tissue allows us to recognize that it is a reservoir of energy, it has a very important role in the integral functioning of each organism, as well as the adverse consequences to health and its risk factors. When people consume more energy than they spend, an imbalance is produced which is manifested in the increase of the volume of the adipose cells, this energy is stored in the deposits, although not everything that is consumed is stored or reserved, there are several types of expenses and types of reserve, according to the levels of attention the energy exchanges are considered as described below.
Raquel del Socorro Guillén Riebeling Copyright (c) 2024 2024-11-19 2024-11-19 14 54 15 21 10.22201/fesz.20075502e.2024.14.54.90259 The nurse's role in taking vital signs, somatometry and feeding https://journals.unam.mx/index.php/psic/article/view/90260
Traditionally, temperature, pulse and respirations have been referred to as vital or cardinal signs, which, along with blood pressure and heart rate, indicate basic physiological functioning specifically in the functional areas of temperature, circulatory and respiratory status. In order to perform a complete evaluation of the patient with obesity the health professional can and should perform a physical examination, which includes measuring your height, checking vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure and temperature, listening to your heart and lungs, and examining your abdomen, this information will help in medical care as well as contribute in choosing the type of treatment that best suits you. For this reason, the nurse usually begins with the taking of vital signs, the support of the nurse is required so that in each consultation these data are given to know in what health conditions the patient is in. This paper reviews the components that make up the vital signs, highlighting their importance in the management of patients with obesity.
Socorro de la Luz Lagunas Jacqueline Elizalde de la Cruz Dolores Patricia Delgado Jacobo Dolores Patricia Delgado Jacobo Copyright (c) 2024 2024-11-19 2024-11-19 14 54 22 25 10.22201/fesz.20075502e.2024.14.54.90260 Eating disorders and their relationship to overall health https://journals.unam.mx/index.php/psic/article/view/90261
Due to the current conditions of life and society, in which it is more and more frequent to give more relevance to food and eating styles, and in which the conditions associated with overweight and obesity, are seen as a business opportunity, in addition to considering the miraculous gifts, the industry of “training” places, the fashion industry, which establish the ideals as quick solutions to this condition, are associated with this growing influence of eating disorders, framed in a society in which thinness is success, the fashion industry, which establish ideals as quick solutions to this condition, are associated with this growing influence eating disorders, framed in a society in which thinness is success, such pressure can lead to the implementation of extreme behaviors, which can become an eating disorder.
