Abstract
The article discusses soldiers’ defections and blood offenses, as well as resistance to regulatory and non-regulatory physical punishments in the war against the Republic of Paraguay, considering the Fourth Chamber of the Council of State recommendations to the Emperor for requests of grace from 1867 to 1871.
