El diagnóstico oportuno de los tumores gastrointestinales es crucial para mejorar la supervivencia de los pacientes. Tradicionalmente, la histopatología ha sido la herramienta principal, sin embargo, la identificación de biomarcadores específicos, como aquellos derivados del microbioma intestinal, el microambiente tumoral y el análisis de biopsias líquidas, están revolucionando el campo de la detección temprana. Además, el uso de microarreglos de tejidos, y la inmunohistoquímica junto con la patología computacional combinada con el aprendizaje automático, está transformando el análisis de imágenes histopatológicas al identificar patrones sutiles en las imágenes que pueden mejorar la precisión diagnóstica y descubrir nuevos biomarcadores asociados incluso con el pronóstico y terapia blanco. La convergencia de la histopatología tradicional, la biología molecular, la inmunología y la inteligencia artificial está generando un panorama prometedor para el diagnóstico temprano y preciso de los tumores gastrointestinales.
